Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, many airlines have either canceled a high number of flights or suspended service completely. Each airline is handling canceled or suspended flights in its own way. Some airlines are offering flight vouchers for use at a later date while others are offering full refunds.
If you’ve already booked a ticket, here’s how some of the major airlines are currently compensating passengers with canceled flights. Keep in mind that because this situation is fluid, it’s best to check directly with your airline.
AeroMexico
Aeromexico is waiving change fees for flights all flights purchased in March. In addition to dates, flight routes can also be changed. Fare differences apply. For flights to and from the United States, rescheduled travel must take place before February 28, 2021.

Air Canada
In response to the closing of the American/Canadian border, Air Canada has drastically reduced its number of flights coming from the U.S. from 53 to 13.
For flights purchased before March 31st, 2020, Air Canada will allow you to change your existing booking without a fee, up until two hours before your flight. You can fly to the same destination at a later date or change to a different destination. The rebooked travel needs to take place before March 31, 2021.
If you’d rather cancel your flight, you can cancel with no cancellation fee. Passengers will receive full credit that can be used for future travel before March 31, 2021.

Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines is offering free changes and cancelations for flights booked for travel before May 31, 2020. Passengers can receive a credit for future travel. Credits available depend on type of fare purchased, so consult the Alaska Airlines website for the full policy.

American Airlines
American Airlines has cut or plans to cut a large percentage of its international and domestic flights in April and May. Canceled flights are eligible for a refund.
Tickets booked before March 1st with scheduled travel before May 31 can be rebooked without a change fee. Fare differences apply and travel must commence by December 31, 2020.
American is also offering free changes and refunds on flights to South Korea, Europe, Hong Kong, and China. Restrictions vary by destination. Be sure to check American’s website for full details.

British Airways
British Airways plans to reduce its number of scheduled flights in April and May. Canceled flights are eligible for a refund.
Flights booked for travel before May 31 are eligible for a voucher for future travel or can be rebooked without a change fee. Vouchers are valid for 12 months from original date of departure. Rebooked flights must take place within 12 months of original date of departure.

Delta Air Lines
Tickets for travel before May 31, 2020 are eligible for rebooking without change fees. Flights booked on or before March 9, 2020 are eligible to cancel and Delta will make their funds available for one year.
Hawaiin Airlines
Hawaiin has announced that almost all April flights from the mainland will be canceled. Canceled flights will be refunded. Flights purchased between March and May can be rebooked without change fees. These changes must be made within one year of the original purchase date.
Tickets purchased before March 1st with travel dates between March and May are also eligible to rebook without change fees. Travel must occur on or before December 31, 2020 or one year from original purchase date (whichever is sooner).
Hawaiin Airlines is also offering refunds and waiving change fees for certain flights to Europe, New Zealand, China, Japan, and South Korea. Compensation varies so consult their website for their full policy.

Icelandair
Iceland air is waiving change fees when re-booking flights originally scheduled before May 1st. Your new travel period must be completed by January 1, 2021.

JetBlue
JetBlue will be canceling more than half of its scheduled flights for April and May. Canceled flights are eligible for a refund. JetBlue is waiving all change and cancellation fees for travel through April 30, 2020. Waivers depend on the original purchase date. Visit JetBlue’s website for full details.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
For all tickets issued before or on May 31, 2020, KLM is giving the travelers to re-book or received a travel voucher. Tickets must be re-booked by September 30, 2020 and must be used by November 30, 2020. Travel vouchers can be used on KLM, Air France, Delta, or Virgin Atlantic.
Lufthansa
Lufthansa has canceled the majority of its international flights for April. Canceled flights are eligible for a refund.
Tickets for travel with Lufthansa can be re-booked without change fees so long as travel occurs before or on December 31, 2020.

Qatar Airways
Qatar has suspended all air travel into the country for at least the duration of March. Transit through Qatar is still permitted, but only citizens of Qatar may enter the country during this time. Canceled flights are eligible for a refund.
Travelers scheduled to travel by September 30, 2020 can rebook without change fees or they may exchange their ticket for a travel voucher. Travel voucher is valid for 1 year from date of issue. Requests must be made up to 3 days prior to departure.

Southwest Airlines
Southwest never charges fees to change or cancel flights. Customers that are scheduled to travel before April 30 may change their travel up to 60 days from the original flight date. If you are unsure of your future travel plans, the funds used to pay for your trip will be available for the customer named on the ticket to use and fly for up to 12 months from the original date of purchase.

United Airlines
United Airlines has announced several cancelations of domestic flights and almost all international flights. Canceled flights are eligible for a refund.
All flights originally scheduled for travel through May 31, 2020 can be rebooked without change fees. Flights purchased before March 3rd with travel scheduled through May 31 can be re-booked for up to 1 year from the original issue date or December 31, 2020 (whichever is earlier).

Virgin Atlantic
At this time, Virgin has announced they’ll be grounding up to 85% of their fleet. Canceled flights are eligible for a refund.
All flights on Virgin Atlantic can be re-booked until April 30, 2020.
